A Generous Gift; a Prayerful Decision

Pray with Us

Please pray with us on an important decision. On October 5, The Rock Baptist Church in Fayetteville closed their doors.  They would like to gift us with their $2 million church property in exchange for their pastor’s severance, realtor fees, and closing costs. The MAC team is unanimously on-board.  According to our by-laws, our church members must vote to accept this gift.  This will be accomplished November 2 at the conclusion of each worship service by a show of hands.  Please review the information below, and email Pastor Chip with any further questions.

What will it cost the church?

The $2 million property is being gifted to us, and in return, we will cover the closing costs, realtor fees, and one year’s severance for the former pastor, which together total $90,000. As a church, the property is exempt from property taxes, and we do not plan to undertake any renovations. The building has been inspected and is in good, working condition. While we will be responsible for basic cemetery maintenance, such as mowing the grass, the primary financial responsibility for the cemetery’s upkeep remains with the Georgia Baptist Fund.

Why did they gift it to FBC?

AMS mentioned to Pastor Joey that The Rock Baptist Church was closing. After hearing it was being sold, Joey contacted the pastor.  The current buyers were covering severance, realtor fees, and closing costs, Joey indicated that if the sale fell through, we might be interested in the building—but not as a purchase.  When that did occur, the building was offered to our church as a gift, but we agreed to honor the same conditions if our vote passes.

How will we use the property?

The property will most likely be given to an autonomous church plant or will be sold with our profits going towards fulfilling our missions vision. It will definitely not become a satellite campus.

Why vote on November 2?

The Rock Baptist Church needs to close their financial books by December 31 so they can shut down their nonprofit before the end of the calendar year.
