Week 2 | Day 5
THE FIRST PLAGUE: BLOOD
Exodus 7:14-24
In Exodus 7:14–24, God began confronting Pharaoh’s stubborn refusal to let Israel go by striking at the very heart of Egypt’s security—the Nile River. Through Moses and Aaron, God turned the Nile and all connected water sources into blood. Fish died, the river stunk, and clean water became scarce, forcing the people to dig desperately for relief. Though Pharaoh’s magicians managed to imitate the sign in some limited way, they couldn’t undo the damage or restore life. Still, rather than humbling Pharaoh, the miracle hardened him further. For seven days the plague lingered as a clear warning: God was revealing His power and identity, and continued resistance will only bring deeper consequences.
Application
1. Pay Attention when God Confronts Your Resistance
What begins as a gentle nudge can become a stronger warning if stubbornness goes unchecked. When resistance arises, always check the condition of your heart first.
2. Examine What You Rely on Most
God touched Egypt’s source of life, reminding us that anything we trust more than
Him—security, success, control—can never truly sustain us.
3. Recognize that Your Choices Affect Others
Pharaoh’s hardened heart didn’t stay personal; it brought suffering to an entire nation. His
decision sent a ripple effect through every aspect of Egyptian life. Our actions impact more than ourselves.
4. Don’t Confuse Imitation with Transformation
Counterfeit solutions may look convincing, but only God can bring real healing and freedom. Just because Pharaoh’s magicians could mimic, they could rescue or retract what had happened.
5. See God’s Warnings as Mercy, not Punishment
When God exposes sin or misplaced trust, it’s an invitation to turn back before greater damage is done. Be sensitive to when God is moving to address sin and stubbornness in you.

Closing Prayer
Lord, help me not to be stiff-necked when You are working in and through my life for my good and Your glory. Forgive me for my stubbornness, selfishness, and short-sightedness. Help me today to seek Your will and plan, and give me a willing spirit that responds quickly and humbly to Your calling. Amen.
