WORKING OUT THE KINKS

Exodus 5:22-6:12

Moses did exactly what God said—confront Pharaoh and call for Israel’s release—and
everything got worse. Bricks without straw. Beatings. Blame. So, Moses took his confusion to God: “Why have You brought trouble…? You haven’t rescued Your people at all” (5:22–23). God answered not by apologizing but by re-anchoring Moses in who He is and what He promised: “I am the LORD… I will bring you out… I will redeem you…” Yet the people
wouldn’t listen—and even Moses stumbled over his own inadequacy. The scene teaches us that delays and detours are not divine denials. God was working a larger, multi-layered
plan—hardening Pharaoh, shaping Israel, training Moses, and setting the stage for a salvation story that stretches all the way to the Cross.

Application

1. Distinguish God’s Plan from God’s Pace

God gave Moses enough light for the next step, not the whole map. Obedience often launches us into a process where God’s purposes and God’s timing meet—eventually.

2. Name Discouragement without Nurturing It

Israel’s “broken spirit” was real. So are ours—especially when pain lingers. Bring honest lament to God like Moses did, then let His “I will” steady your “I can’t.”

3. Refuse the Easy Exits of Blame, Cynicism, and Quitting

When things don’t go as hoped, the flesh looks for targets; faith looks for God. Choose to trust that He is at work for your good and His glory—even when you can’t yet see the good.

4. Remember the God has a Bigger Plan Beyond You

God wasn’t only freeing slaves from Egypt; He was preparing the line of redemption to free
humanity from sin. Your current trial may be part of someone else’s future mercy.

5. Prioritize Consecration over Circumstance

God forms private character before He expands public calling. Let delays drive you deeper into holiness, prayer, and integrity.

Closing Prayer

Lord, help me to be a person of hope. Help me to trust not only Your plan but also Your timing. When my expectations collapse and discouragement bites, remind me of who You are and what You have promised. Form my character in the waiting, steady my heart with Your “I will,” and use this season for my good and for Your glory. Amen.
