GOING BACK TO EGYPT

Exodus 4:18-31

On the road back to Egypt, Moses is carrying the staff of God and a fresh commission—but
there’s a hidden fracture at home. God had warned that firstborn judgment was coming to an uncircumcised Egypt, yet Moses misses the covenant hint. So, that night, the Lord confronted him, but Zipporah intervened by circumcising their son and touching the blood to Moses, causing the danger to pass. The message is unmistakable—no one can lead God’s people publicly while neglecting God’s covenant privately. Grace might spare us, yet obedience is what consecrates. Only then does Moses meet Aaron, speak to the elders, and watch faith awaken in Israel. Calling and character must walk side by side.

Application

1. Begin with the Altar, not the Platform

Before we carry a staff in public, we must honor God’s covenant in private. Let your hidden life be as surrendered as your public words are bold.

2. Consecration is Never Optional

Holiness starts with God’s work for us, but it continues with our response to Him. “As obedient children… be holy in all you do” (1 Peter 1:13–16). Set apart what God has set apart.

3. Align Your Character with Your Calling

God’s power flows through clean conduits. Ask: Is there any gap between what I teach and how I practice—especially in my home?

4. Let Grace Correct Your Course

Zipporah’s quick obedience became a mercy that saved a life and a mission. When the Spirit convicts, respond quickly; small acts of obedience avert larger disasters.

5. Lead Your Household into the Covenant

Moses was held responsible for his family’s consecration. Spiritual leadership starts at
home—order there first, then go.

Closing Prayer

Lord, forgive me for treating Your gift of holiness lightly—for enjoying imputed righteousness while neglecting practical obedience. By Your Spirit, close every gap between my calling and my character. Cleanse hidden compromises, sanctify my home, and set my steps apart for Your purposes. I renounce the appetites and ambitions of the flesh and choose the narrow way of consecration. Thank You for the blood that spares and the grace that restores. Make me holy as You are holy, and fit me for the work You’ve given me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
