Week 1 | Day 4
CLOSE ENCOUNTER
Exodus 3:1-4:17
In Exodus 3–4, God meets Moses in a bush that burns but is not consumed—a living parable of His holy presence that purifies without destroying. From the fire, God names Himself, names Moses, and names the mission: “Go to Pharaoh… bring my people out.” He lays out the plan, supplies the signs, and even provides a partner in Aaron. Still, Moses trembles, bargains, and balks. Yet the sovereign God who has quietly shaped Moses in the wilderness now patiently answers his fears, redirects his excuses, and equips his calling. The point isn’t Moses’ ability but God’s sufficiency; not Moses’ confidence but God’s constancy. Holy ground became a launchpad—because the God who calls also goes with the called.
Application
1. See Your wilderness as God’s Workshop
Midian wasn’t a detour; it was preparation. The seasons that feel hidden or “on hold” often forge the humility and habits your next assignment will require.
2. Listen for God Even without a Burning Bush
Burning bushes are rare, but God still speaks—through Scripture, prayer, wise counsel, and
providential nudges. Posture your heart to listen, and resolve to obey what you already know.
3. God’s Presence is Always Holy Ground
Reverence and intimacy are not opposites. Take off your sandals—lay down your pride, hurry, and self-reliance—then draw near as a child to a Father.
4. God doesn’t Call the Equipped; He Equips the Called
Your inadequacy isn’t the obstacle—your independence is. Offer your “staff” (ordinary tools,
skills, and story) and watch what God can do through surrendered weakness.
5. Hold the Calling with Open Hands
Never make ministry “about me.” Remember: God’s work is done by God’s power for God’s
glory. Steward the assignment; don’t steal the spotlight.

Closing Prayer
Lord, while I want to offer You my very best, remind me it’s never about me and always about You. Keep me from taking my calling, gifts, or opportunities for granted—or bending them toward my comfort and praise. Thank You for who You’ve made me to be, where You’ve placed me, and what You’ve entrusted to my hands. I surrender it all again for Your glory. Supply what I lack, steady my fears, and surround me with the right partners so that Your name—not mine—is lifted high. Amen.
