LIVING FOR JESUS

Philippians 2:1-4

What gets you up in the morning? More importantly, what is the priority of your day. For Paul, it was to live for Jesus. It wasn’t just to know Him—it was to surrender and serve him. Paul teaches us that the Christian life isn’t merely personal devotion—it is relational transformation shaped by Christ’s love. Because we have encouragement in Christ, comfort from His love, fellowship in the Spirit, and compassion from God, our lives should reflect these same qualities toward others as living for Jesus means allowing the grace we receive from Him to shape the way we treat people.

Such a life calls us to unity that grows out of humility. This unity isn’t created by ignoring differences but by adopting a Christlike mindset that values others above ourselves. To live for Jesus then, requires surrendering pride and self-centered ambition. Instead of seeking personal advantage, we’re called to consider the needs and interests of others. Such a posture reflects the heart of Jesus and prepares the way for the deeper example Paul will describe in the following verses.

Application

Remember the Grace You have Received

The encouragement, love, and fellowship of Jesus shape our identity. We become who we are because of this amazing work of the Holy Spirit in us. As a result, gratitude for this grace should motivate humble living.

Pursue Unity Intentionally

Unity in Christ requires effort and shared commitment. A Christ-centered focus doesn’t happen by chance but by pursuit—and such pursuit strengthens our relationships with one another.

Replace Selfish Ambition with Humility

Pride divides and damages community. It destroys fellowship and our witness. Humility though, opens the door for harmony, health, healing, and hope. Without question—the greatest mark of a follower of Christ is humility. Nothing reflects the love of God that our willingness to see ourselves correctly and to serve others before serving ourselves.

Genuinely Value Others

In our self-centered would, considering others more important than ourselves reflects Christ’s character as His love in us becomes visible to others through selfless concern.

Pay Attention to the Needs Around You

Simply put, living for Jesus means caring about the well-being of others. When Jesus in us lives through us, this compassion turns faith into action and into a witness of His truth in us.

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for the encouragement and love I have in Christ. Help me live with humility and unity so that my life reflects the heart of Jesus. Teach me to value others above myself and to care sincerely for their needs. Shape my attitudes and actions so that I truly live for You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
