JESUS IN MY CAREER

Ephesians 6:5-9

In Ephesians 6:5–9, Paul continues His explanation of how Jesus in us should be reflected in every area of our lives by extending faith into the workplace. Though the original context addressed servants and masters in the ancient world, the principle applies to modern employees and employers alike. Work isn’t merely a transaction of effort for compensation; it’s an opportunity to missionally serve Christ through diligence, integrity, and humility as our workplace is a Christian’s mission field. Believers are called to work sincerely, “as unto Christ,” recognizing that our ultimate authority and reward come from Him.

Paul also addresses those believers who are in positions of authority, reminding us that leadership must reflect the character of Christ. Employers are instructed to treat others with fairness and respect, remembering that both worker and leader share the same Master in heaven. In God’s kingdom there is no partiality. When Christ is honored in the workplace, both effort and leadership become acts of worship that point others toward Him.

Application

Work with Sincerity and Integrity as unto the Lord

Our ambitions, attitudes, and actions reflect our faith in every aspect of our lives, but at work—it impacts our witness for Christ. Do my colleagues only hear my faith or do they see and experience my faith?

Serve Christ through Your Daily Responsibilities

Our workplace should be a place of worship and our work is our offering giving God our first and best and never our least and leftovers. Our purpose grows when we view work through a spiritual lens.

Lead with Fairness and Humility

Authority is stewardship, not privilege. God calls leaders to reflect His justice and compassion—and each of us, whether boss or employee possesses a level of influence that bears the name of Jesus.

Reject Superficial Performance

Working only when watched reveals misplaced motivation. True faithfulness flows from a heart devoted to Christ. Work to please God and not man—and God will give you an inexplicable joy in the job no matter the job.

Remember Your Ultimate Master

Every believer ultimately answers to God. This truth brings both accountability and encouragement. Jesus isn’t just watching us at work though; He is spurring us along to help us to serve Him as we serve the mission of the company who pays our bills.

Closing Prayer

Father, help me reflect Christ in the way I work and lead. Give me integrity, diligence, and humility in every task. Teach me to treat others with fairness and respect, remembering that we all serve You. May my work become a testimony of Your grace and truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
