WALK IN PURITY

Ephesians 5:2-7

To walk in purity isn’t just to avoidance the appearance of wrongdoing but also to live a life shaped by sacrificial love. “Walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us.” Purity begins with imitation—patterning our lives after the self-giving love of Christ. His offering was both sacrificial and pleasing to the Father, but also an example of how we are to live our daily living in selfless surrender to God that loves others as God loves them. Thus, to walk in purity is to live in a way that reflects this same devotion and alignment with God’s heart, will, and Word.

Juxtaposed to this way of living is to live only for the gratification of the flesh—sexual immorality, impurity, greed, and corrupt speech. These behaviors aren’t fitting for those called saints because they reflect self-centered desire rather than Christ-centered surrender. Therefore, purity isn’t repression; it’s redirection. It’s choosing gratitude over entitlement, truth over deception, and light over darkness—and those who belong to Christ are called to live distinctly, refusing participation in patterns that contradict their identity.

Application

Let God’s Love in You Define Your Conduct

Christ’s sacrifice sets the standard for how we are to treat others. This begins with walking with God so that His love is continually poured into us so that it can flow through us. True purity grows from self-giving love.

Guard Your Desires Carefully

Unchecked desire given to the flesh can distort devotion. We must continually ask the Holy Spirit to align our longings and desires with God’s will and Word.

Replace Corruption with Gratitude

Thanksgiving has a way of shifting the focus from craving to contentment. A grateful heart uniquely has an ability to resist impurity. So, seek to live with an attitude of gratitude.

Refuse to Partner with Darkness

The demonic only seek to kill, steal, and destroy—while Jesus came to give life. Our participation with light and darkness shapes our identity. Therefore, we must choose influences that strengthen holiness.

Live as One Set Apart

Our calling as saints reflects our new identity in Christ and calls us to walk consistently with who we are in Christ and not who we used to be. If we walk in the Spirit, we will not carry out the desires of the flesh.

Closing Prayer

Father, teach me to walk in love as Christ loved me. Guard my heart from desires that lead away from purity, and cultivate gratitude within me. Help me live distinctly, reflecting Your holiness and truth. May my life be a pleasing offering that honors You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
