BOASTING IN THE CROSS
Galatians 6:11-18
As Paul close out this epistle, he does so with a deeply personal emphasis—written in his own hand—to contrast empty religious boasting with the true ground of confidence—the cross of Christ. The false teachers of the day gloried in outward marks like circumcision because such symbols brought social approval and avoided persecution. But Paul refused to measure worth by external performance. Instead, he declared, “May it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of Jesus Christ.” Paul’s point is essential to understand. The cross reshapes everything—it severs our attachment to the world and redefines our identity. We are in Christ!
Through the cross, Paul says, “the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” What ultimately matters isn’t our religious appearance but that we have become a new creation. External badges can’t ever produce internal transformation. Peace and mercy belong to those who walk according to this rule—that salvation and identity are rooted entirely in Christ’s finished work on the cross and in the resurrection. Thus, the Christian life isn’t built on self-display but on humble gratitude for His redeeming grace.

Examine What You Take Pride In
We must always remember that the heart naturally seeks validation through visible achievements. So, we must allow our confidence to rest in what Christ has done, not on what we display.
Let the Cross Redefine Your Relationship with the World
Through Christ’s sacrifice, worldly approval has lost its ultimate grip. Still, we must live as one whose identity is secured beyond the applause of others and seeks only to put a smile on God’s face.
Learn to Value Transformation Over Appearance
External religiosity can mask spiritual emptiness when we think that spiritual activity pleases God. But God doesn’t want our Pharisee-ism, He wants us. He seeks intimacy over activity. True change flows from becoming a new creation in Christ who abides in Him.
Embrace Humility as a Mark of Grace
Boasting in the cross and not in one’s spiritual activities removes grounds for any comparison because it allow our gratitude for what Jesus did for us to replace self-promotion and what we think we can do for Him.
Walk in the Peace of Gospel-centered Identity
When our worth is anchored solely in the work of Jesus on the cross and the empty tomb, striving fades—and mercy becomes the atmosphere of our daily lives.

Closing Prayer
Father, forgive me when I boast in anything other than the cross of Christ. Teach me to rest in the new identity You have given me through His sacrifice. Help me value inward transformation above outward appearance and to live free from the need for human approval. May my life quietly testify to the grace that has made me new. In Jesus’ name, amen.
