APOSTOLIC ACCEPTANCE
Galatians 2:1-10
Starting in chapter 2, Paul recounted a pivotal visit to Jerusalem fourteen years after his conversion where he met privately with the recognized leaders—James, Peter, and John—to ensure that the gospel he was preaching among the Gentiles wasn’t being undermined by false teaching. The central issue was clear: must Gentile believers adopt Jewish ceremonial law, particularly circumcision, to be fully accepted by God? In this exchange, Paul refused to yield even for a moment, because the truth of the gospel was at stake and they needed to accept the truth that salvation is by grace through faith alone for anyone, and not by cultural conformity or religious performance.
Titus, a Greek believer, became a living test case. He wasn’t compelled to be circumcised, affirming that justification comes through faith in Christ apart from works of the Law. The apostles recognized the grace given to Paul and extended fellowship to him, affirming unity in the gospel while acknowledging distinct ministry callings. This passage highlights both doctrinal clarity and relational unity: truth must be preserved, and partnership must be protected. The gospel creates freedom from bondage and fellowship across differences—all for the sake of advancing Christ’s name.

Application

Titus was fully accepted in Christ without adopting external rituals. Our standing before God rests on faith in Jesus, not cultural or religious performance.
Seek Unity Rooted in Truth
Biblical unity isn’t built on minimizing differences but on affirming shared gospel conviction. When Christ is central, fellowship can flourish.
Embrace Your Unique Calling without Comparison
Paul was entrusted with ministry to the Gentiles, while Peter focused on the Jews. God assigns different fields of service, but the same grace empowers them all.

Closing Prayer
Father, thank You that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Guard my heart from adding requirements You have not imposed, and give me courage to stand firm in truth. Unite Your people around the purity of the gospel, and help me serve faithfully in the calling You have given me. May my life reflect both conviction and compassion for Your glory.
