GREETINGS IN THE LORD
Galatians 1:1-5
The Apostle Paul opens Galatians with urgency, not pleasantries. He immediately established that his apostleship wasn’t from men nor through man, but from God the Father. Before addressing the Galatians’ drift toward a distorted gospel influenced by culture, he rooted everything in divine authority and grace. He established that the gospel didn’t originate in human opinion, religious tradition, or cultural consensus—but rather that it came through the crucified and risen Christ. This truth alone guards the church from drifting into performance-based faith or doctrinal compromise because humanity can’t generate such grace but only decide to receive or reject it.
In verses 3–5, Paul then gave a compact yet breathtaking summary of the gospel: grace and peace flow from God the Father and Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins to deliver us from this present evil age. Salvation then, was voluntary (by Jesus alone), substitutionary (for our sins), intentional (to deliver us), and identifying (to whom be the glory forever). Thus, the cross wasn’t merely an example of love; it was a rescue mission. Jesus didn’t come to improve us but to deliver us—according to the Father’s will. True Christianity begins and ends with God’s grace, rests on the finished work of Jesus, and results in glory going back to God.

Anchor Your Faith in God’s Divine Authority, not Human Approval

Guard the Purity of the Gospel in Your Own Heart
The Galatians drifted quickly from their faith because they subtly added to grace. The moment we add performance to Christ’s finished work, truth, peace, and intimacy will begin to erode.
Remember that Salvation is Rescue, not Self-improvement
Jesus “gave Himself” to deliver us, not to assist our efforts. We don’t reform our way out of bondage—we are rescued out of it. This is only possible through the cross and the power of God through the Holy Spirit.
Live Aware of the Present Evil Age
The gospel doesn’t just secure heaven; it frees us from being shaped by this world’s values now. God’s grace and Word empower holy distinctiveness in a confused culture, shining a light on truth and salvation.
Let Your Life Bring Glory to God
Paul ended his opening remarks with worship because theology rightly understood produces doxology. When grace humbles us and peace steadies us, gratitude should overflow from us.
