Week 2 | Day 1
UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS
Exodus 5:1-21
Moses and Aaron obeyed exactly what God said rallying Israel’s leaders with God’s promise, then standing before Pharaoh with God’s command, “Let my people go.” The people were elated—until obedience seemed to make everything worse. Pharaoh scoffed at the Lord, hardened his demands, removed the straw, and kept the quota. Israelite foremen were beaten; frustration boiled over; and the people turned on Moses and Aaron, accusing them of making their situation worse. Yet things were going according to God’s plan—but not according to Israel’s expectations.
Application
1. Trade Your Short View for God’s Long View
We count days and weeks while God is weaving centuries and salvation. He is always tending both the big picture and the small details—especially when we can’t see either.
2. Expect the “Worse-Before-Better” Stretch
Obedience often surfaces resistance. Harder bricks and harsher bosses do not signal God’s
absence but may be the runway for His deliverance.
3. Remember God is Always Working On You, IN You, FOR You, and THROUGH You
In Egypt, God was shaping His people (on and in), securing their good (for), and preparing their witness (through). He is doing the same in you.
4. Ascend to the Watchtower
When the ground-level view is all pain and pressure, step up into prayer, worship, and Scripture to rise above your circumstances to see God’s bigger picture. Perspective is a gift; receive it.
5. Let Pruning Prepare You
Pressure reveals our roots and refines our reflexes. Don’t waste the squeeze—ask God what He is trimming so you can bear the kind of fruit that endures.
6. Anchor Hope to God’s Character, not your Timetable
Pharaoh’s hard heart, the plagues, the Passover, and the Sea were not a detour but God’s design.

Closing Prayer
Lord, when expectations crumble and injustice swirls, lift my eyes. Thank You that You are always working on me, in me, for me, and through me for Your glory and my good. Give me patience with my circumstances and courage to keep obeying when the path gets harder. Help me climb the watchtower of faith, to see beyond two feet to Your greater story. Amen.
